Bournemouth vs Everton predictions

There was a time not too long ago when Bournemouth were relegation contenders and Everton were European aspirants. The roles have now reversed.

Indeed, as we enter 2025 it is the Cherries who are sixth in the Premier League standings. They have had a magnificent first half of the season under Andoni Iraola, who is doing such a good job that Bournemouth fans fear he could be poached by a club higher up the food chain.

Iraola’s side are currently on a seven-game unbeaten run. They almost suffered defeat by Fulham last weekend, only for Dango Ouattara to pop up with an 89th-minute equaliser. Only Liverpool and Arsenal have gone longer without tasting defeat in the top flight.

This is no fluke either. Expected goals difference, a measure of the quality of chances a team creates and concedes, ranks Bournemouth as the third-best performing side in the division up to now, again behind just Liverpool and Arsenal.

It took a while for Iraola to get his ideas across at the Vitality Stadium, but he has now fashioned a side in his image. Bournemouth might just be the strongest pressing team in the Premier League. They are not overly concerned with possession, focusing instead on winning the ball in dangerous areas and going straight for the throat of their opponents.

Everton are similarly unfussy about their share of the ball. Whereas Bournemouth rank 16th for possession at the time of writing, Everton are 20th out of 20.

Yet because they do not press with anything like the same intensity as Bournemouth, Everton are a much duller watch. Many fans would like to see Sean Dyche replaced as manager, although that would be a risk at this stage of the season given the 53-year-old’s track record of keeping teams in the league.

At their best, Everton are a resolute and dogged outfit. They demonstrated those qualities in consecutive draws with Arsenal, Chelsea and Manchester City in December.

But the Toffees need to offer more going forward. Granted, their squad is one of the weakest in the league and Dyche is not exactly blessed with top-class talent in attack, even if Iliman Ndiaye is having a good season.

Everton fans still want to see more ambition from their team, but Dyche is unlikely to suddenly open up against an in-form Bournemouth.

Bournemouth vs Everton betting tips

Everton make the long trip to the south coast to do battle with Bournemouth this weekend.

Bournemouth to win

Bournemouth have some tricky games on the horizon. Over the next few weeks they are due to face Chelsea, Newcastle United, Nottingham Forest and Liverpool.

Bournemouth may end up dropping down a few places after that run of matches, but equally they will cause problems for each of those teams.

Saturday’s meeting with Everton is arguably their best chance to emerge triumphant before a trip to Southampton in the middle of February.

This will be a different test for Bournemouth, who will have a much larger share of possession than usual.

With the attacking quality at Iraola’s disposal, the hosts should come out on top against Everton.

⚽ Back Bournemouth to win at 4/5 with SBK ⚽

Under 2.5 goals

Based on the goals their games contain, Wolverhampton Wanderers and Tottenham Hotspur are the most entertaining teams in the Premier League this term.

Bottom of that list are Everton. Their 18 games in 2024/25 average just 2.17 goals per 90 minutes, the lowest such figure in the division.

A league-high 61 percent of the Toffees’ fixtures have featured under 2.5 goals and we anticipate a similar outcome here.

Bournemouth will have to be patient as they attempt to break down the Everton defence. For all their struggles overall, it is notable that only six sides have conceded fewer goals than Dyche’s men.

Goals could be few and far between on the south coast.

Evanilson to score any time

Evanilson has proved to be a good replacement for Dominic Solanke, who left Bournemouth for Tottenham last summer.

The Brazilian is more of a front-to-goal striker than Solanke, who is better at holding the ball up and winning physical battles with opposition centre-backs.

But Evanilson comes alive inside the penalty area. His strike against Fulham last time out was his fifth of the season.

That is not a spectacular return, but Evanilson is a work in progress and he has shown plenty of potential. Iraola has managed him astutely, occasionally taking him out of the team as he continues to adapt to English football.

The former Porto man’s sharpness in and around the 18-yard box can help him to make the net bulge against Everton.

⚽ Tip Evanilson to score any time at 8/5 with Betfred ⚽
