Dortmund vs Stuttgart predictions
Matchday 21 signals the latest reboot for stuttering Dortmund, with Niko Kovac set to take charge of his first game for the Black and Yellow.
If you include caretaker boss Mike Tullberg, Kovac is BVB’s third third head coach of the season.
Nuri Sahin was the original boss, he only took over from Edin Terzic at the beginning of the season. But after starting 2025 with three successive Bundesliga defeats, Sahin was shown the door on January 22nd.
The truth is that the former Dortmund midfielder had been under pressure for weeks. A 2-0 defeat away at Frankfurt on Matchday 18 finally signalled the end of Sahin’s troubled tenure.
Since the change, Dortmund has consolidated. Under the guidance of interim boss Mike Tullberg, BVB picked up four points in two matches.
The losing streak was ended with a 2-2 home draw against Werder on Matchday 19. And Tullberg then ended his temporary role on a high note by overseeing a 2-1 win away at Heidenheim last Saturday.
The points were much needed. Dortmund sit 11th in the table with 29 points from 20 matches.
But despite being in the bottom half of the table, all hope is not lost. The Bundesliga is very tight this season, and as a result, BVB start the match week just four points outside of the Champions League places.
Also striving for a place in the top four are Stuttgart.
The Reds start the match week in fifth place, just three points ahead of their hosts.
Unlike BVB, Stuttgart were in action in midweek. They defeated Augsburg 1-0 in the DFB-Pokal quarter-final.
The win was much needed as the Reds had lost their last three in all competitions.
Under head coach Sebastian Hoeneß, the Reds started 2025 with three consecutive Bundesliga wins. That run was ended by a 2-0 defeat away to Mainz on Matchday 19.
The Reds then lost 4-1 at home to PSG in the Champions League. That loss was followed by a further home defeat, this time to Monchengladbach in the Bundesliga last Saturday.
Stuttgart went behind to a Nathan Ngoumou goal after 21 minutes. An own goal from Nico Elvedi got them back in the game early in the second half.
But with a point within their reach, Tim Kleindienst scored an 81st minute winner to condemn Stuttgart to a third successive defeat.
The Reds will start the match week in fifth place on 32 points from 20 matches.

This really is a match that could go either way. So instead of trying to pick a winner, we are going with what we know best about the home team.
Goals tend to be scored at both ends of the pitch at Signal Iduna Park. There have been 37 (24-13) in ten Bundesliga matches.
We don’t see that changing anytime soon.
Back both teams to score and over 2.5 goals at 4/5 with SBK
Serhou Guirassy to score anytime
Serhou Guirassy has nine goals and three assists in 17 Bundesliga matches for BVB this season.
The striker also has nine goals and two assists in eight Champions League matches.
Guirassy scored one goal in seven Bundesliga matches after missing the game against Freiburg on Matchday 11.
But he is now back in form.
Not only has he scored two goals and provided one assist in his last two Bundesliga matches, he has also scored three goals in BVB’s two January Champions League fixtures.
In all competitions, he has five goals in his last four games.
Back a red hot Serhou Guirassy to score anytime at 5/4 with Tote
30+ booking points for Dortmund
Dortmund have picked up 64 yellow cards and five reds in 30 Bundesliga fixtures this season.
Defender Nico Schlotterbeck is currently serving a suspension after receiving his second red of the season in Dortmund’s draw with Werder.
Discipline has obviously been a problem. And it’s clear that new boss Niko Kovac will have to address this issue at some point. But his first task is to get the team winning again.
Kovac will be looking for a fully committed performance from his players. And the Dortmund players will no doubt want to impress their new boss.
We can expect to see some fireworks from BVB, and it will come as no surprise to see them pick up two or more yellow cards – or even a red and a yellow, which would also be enough to see this bet win.
