Bayern Munich’s Champions League clash with Benfica was delayed by 15 minutes on Wednesday night.
The club announced kick-off had been pushed back to 8:15pm GMT due to a bizarre reason.
Tonight’s match instead got underway at 8.15pm instead of the previously scheduled 8pm kick-off time.
Bayern confirmed in a statement that the delay was due to fans being unable to get into the Allianz Arena.
This had been caused by signalling issues on the subway system in Munich.
A statement on X read: “Due to a signal box malfunction, there are currently delays in the subway traffic towards the stadium/Fröttmaning.
“Stadium visitors are therefore asked to use other means of transport if possible.”
In a follow up post, the club added: “Due to the difficulty of many visitors getting to the stadium, kick-off will be delayed by 15 minutes. The signal box malfunction has now been resolved.”
Fortunately for fans of both clubs, the match was able to begin at the adjusted time without any further issues.
Bayern are looking to bounce back from consecutive defeats to Aston Villa and Barcelona to kickstart their European campaign.
Vincent Kompany’s side found themselves 28th in the table heading into Wednesday’s match and at risk of elimination.
The bottom 12 clubs in the expanded 36-team group stage will be knocked out of Europe altogether.

Meanwhile, Benfica could move into the top eight with a victory.
Wins over Red Star Belgrade and Atletico Madrid saw the Portuguese side make a perfect start to the campaign.
However, they were beaten at home by Dutch side Feyenoord on matchday three a fortnight ago.
