Paris Saint-Germain are in trouble.
The draw for the league phase of the Champions League did them no favours, handing them perhaps the toughest set of fixtures of any of the main contenders to lift the trophy.
Four games in and with four more remaining, Luis Enrique’s side are far from guaranteed a place in the next stage of the competition.
A top-eight finish is, in all likelihood, already out, leaving PSG chasing a position between ninth and 24th in order to enter the play-offs ahead of the round of 16.
A last-gasp own goal brought them a 1-0 victory over Girona on matchday one, since when PSG have had little to cheer.
A 2-0 loss to Arsenal followed, before PSG could only manage a point at home to PSV. When Atletico Madrid visited the Parc des Princes last time out, Angel Correa struck in second-half stoppage time to give the away team a precious 2-1 win.
That set of results means PSG are 25th in the standings at the midway point of the league phase. Three of their final four games will take place at opposition grounds, including this daunting trip to Munich.
Red Bull Salzburg away is not the most difficult assignment, but PSG must still face Manchester City (the bookies’ favourites to win the tournament) and Stuttgart, who have already given Juventus a bloody nose in this tournament.
A victory at the Allianz Arena would do wonders for PSG’s chances of progression, but Bayern Munich could also do with all three points.
Losses to Aston Villa and Barcelona mean Bayern are still fighting for the top-eight finish that would send them straight through to the last 16.
Indeed, while both Bayern and PSG are flying high at the top of the table in their respective leagues, neither has been overly convincing in continental competition.
You would certainly rather be in Bayern’s shoes, though. The Bavarians will be reasonably confident about finding a way past Shakhtar Donetsk, Feyenoord and Slovan Bratislava in their final three matches. They are also the favourites for this crunch clash on Tuesday.

Bayern Munich have been scoring goals for fun in the Bundesliga, making the net bulge 36 times in 11 outings.
Seven of their last eight league wins have been by more than a one-goal margin, while the same was true of Bayern’s respective 9-2 thrashing of Dinamo Zagreb on matchday one of the Champions League.

A 1-0 triumph over Benfica in their most recent European contest was a tighter game, but Bayern are capable of triumphing by two clear goals here.
This is a PSG team in transition following Kylian Mbappe’s exit, and there is something about them you do not fully trust in big away games like this.
PSG were second best throughout a 2-0 defeat by Arsenal and this match could follow a similar pattern.

This is not a must-win game for PSG. Ten points could be enough to reach the play-offs, so even a defeat here would leave the Parisians with an opportunity to qualify by winning two of their last three games.
Yet it is hard to overstate just how significant a victory at the Allianz Arena could be for Luis Enrique’s side.
Given their predicament and the tactical preferences of their manager, PSG are unlikely to sit back and spoil on Tuesday.
They will have to commit bodies to the final third when there is an opportunity to do so, hoping to take advantage of what can be a suspect Bayern Munich backline.
Indeed, both of these sides are better going forward than they are defensively, so we should see a fair few goals.

Harry Kane collected yet another record at the weekend, as a hat-trick against Augsburg saw him become the quickest player to 50 goals in Bundesliga history.
The England international is nearer the end of his top-level career than the start, but for now he remains one of the world’s best centre-forwards.
After a difficult individual summer for England, Kane is back to his best at club level: 17 appearances in 2024/25 have produced 20 goals.
The Bayern Munich frontman is particularly prolific on home turf, where he has scored 13 times since the beginning of the campaign.
Do not be surprised if Kane notches a brace or more against a PSG side that could be defensively open given they need to take a few risks.
