The 2025 Australian Open will start a blockbuster tennis calendar with a bang as the year’s first Grand Slam.
The world’s best players are in Melbourne for the first major tournament with Novak Djokovic hoping to wrestle back his title.
The Serbian, who has a men’s record 10 Australian Open crowns, last won Down Under in 2023 having fallen to last year’s champion Jannick Sinner in the semi-finals.
However, Djokovic will make his highly anticipated return under the tutelage of Andy Murray, who has agreed to coach his long-time former rival following his retirement from active play last year.
Meanwhile, Aryna Sabalenka is the defending champion and top seed in the women’s singles but will face tough competition again from the likes of Iga Swiatek, Coco Gauff and Jasmine Paolini.

Australian Open 2025: What has been said?
Djokovic says he still feels ‘a bit of trauma’ coming through Melbourne airport after he was deported from Australia three years ago.
“I have to be quite frank,” Djokovic told Herald Sun newspaper.
“The last couple of times I landed in Australia, to go through passport control and immigration – I had a bit of trauma from three years ago.
“And some traces still stay there when I’m passing passport control, just checking out if someone from immigration zone is approaching.
“The person checking my passport – are they going to take me, detain me again or let me go? I must admit I have that feeling.”
