Aston Villa vs Juventus predictions

For the first time in a while, Aston Villa are going through a sticky spell.

Unai Emery’s charges experienced the odd dip in form last term, but there was relatively little to grumble about in a season which saw Villa qualify for the Champions League via their first top-four finish in the Premier League since 1995/96.

Villa started the current campaign well too. As well as winning each of their first three games in Europe’, they sat fourth in the Premier League standings at the start of this month.

Villa have had a tough time since then, however. They lost their first Champions League game of 2024/25 on matchday four, going down 1-0 to Club Brugge in a surprise result in Belgium.

Domestically they were knocked out of the EFL Cup by Crystal Palace, whose 2-2 draw at Villa Park on Saturday means Villa have now won just one of their last seven top-flight encounters.

There are signs of vulnerability when you watch Emery’s team these days. Their intensity has dipped, perhaps as a result of physical and mental fatigue as the squad seeks to balance Champions League commitments with those of the Premier League.

Palace demonstrated how easy it has become for opponents to slice through Villa on Saturday. Emery’s side continue to defend with a remarkably high line, but they are not as effective at applying pressure higher up the pitch.

All is not lost, though. In the Champions League, Villa are still in a strong position: they sit eighth in the 36-team table and are very much in contention for direct qualification to the round of 16. Emery is an excellent manager who may well have a solution up his sleeve.

Villa’s final four fixtures are not the most straightforward, however. In between home games against Juventus and Celtic, they face potentially tricky trips to RB Leipzig and Monaco.

The former are stuck on zero points but remain dangerous opposition on their day, while Monaco are unbeaten and memorably defeated Barcelona on matchday one.

Despite the team’s recent struggles, the Villa Park crowd will be fully behind the players on Wednesday. After all, this is precisely the type of occasion Villa fans long dreamed of experiencing again.

Aston Villa vs Juventus betting tips

Can Aston Villa get back on track when Juventus make the trip to Birmingham this week?

Draw

Juventus have been extremely tough to beat this season.

Only one of their 17 opponents across Serie A and the Champions League has managed it – Stuttgart, who ran out 1-0 winners at the Allianz Stadium on matchday three.

Juve are one of only three unbeaten teams in Europe’s top five leagues (Paris Saint-Germain and Bayern Munich are the other two). But unlike that latter duo, the Bianconeri are not top of their division. In fact, they are way down in sixth spot.

That is because Juventus are draw specialists. A goalless stalemate with AC Milan on Saturday was their seventh tie of the Serie A campaign.

The score may well finish level here too. A draw would not be a bad result for either team, you feel.

Juventus to score last

Aston Villa fought back from a goal down twice to draw 2-2 with Crystal Palace on Saturday. On this occasion, we envisage their opponents having the last laugh.

Emery will instruct his players to make a fast start to Wednesday’s game. Villa will attempt to feed off the energy of the crowd to pin Juventus back. In an ideal world, they would make an early breakthrough.

But Juve are comfortable in possession and they should be able to gradually build their way into the match.

Villa have looked a little tired of late and that could result in them unintentionally easing off in the final half an hour or so.

It is also worth noting that Thiago Motta’s team have the second-best second-half record in Serie A, so Juve tend to come on strong later in games.

Kenan Yildiz to score any time

Jean-Philippe Mateta did a masterful job of holding up the ball and linking play for Crystal Palace at the weekend.

Mateta’s selfless work allowed Ismaila Sarr to continually dart beyond the Aston Villa defence. His runs in behind allowed Sarr to score the opening goal and set up Palace’s second.

In a similar manner, keep an eye on Kenan Yildiz on Wednesday. The Turkey international is quick off the mark and Thiago Motta will encourage him to stretch Villa’s high line.

Emery will stick to his principles, so there is very little chance of Villa dropping off against Juventus.

That means the nippy Yildiz, who scored in the derby against Torino earlier this month, could be one of the visitors’ most dangerous players.

⚽ Select Kenan Yildiz to score any time at 15/4 with bet365 ⚽
