AS Roma vs Eintracht Frankfurt predictions
Roma’s poor start to the season is in danger of coming back to haunt them as we come to the end of the Europa League group stage.
The Italians start Matchday 8 in 21st place, just one point ahead of the elimination zone. A win will guarantee them passage to the Round of 16 playoffs. Anything less, and the Giallorossi will be relying on other results.
After struggling to get going in the opening months of the season, Claudio Ranieri was appointed as the club’s third different head coach in November.
Ranieri’s first job was to steady the ship. He has achieved that, pulling his team away from the relegation zone. Roma now sit ninth in Serie A on 30 points and are unbeaten in six domestically.
The situation Ranieri inherited in Europe was similar to their domestic predicament. Roma had five points from four matches when he was appointed.
A 2-2 away draw at Spurs on Matchday 5 was followed by a 3-0 home win over Braga on Matchday 6. The four points put Roma back on track.
Then on Matchday 7, the wheels fell off again with the Romans going down to a 1-0 defeat away at AZ Alkmaar.
The result led to some uncharacteristic criticism from the usually phlegmatic Ranieri, and also to his team needing a result against Frankfurt on Matchday 8 just to make the Round of 16 playoffs.
Eintracht Frankfurt is having another impressive season domestically and in Europe.
Frankfurt sit third in the Bundesliga with 37 points from 19 matches. They are unbeaten in their last four domestically, with three wins and one draw.
Die Adler are second in the Europa League table with 16 points from seven matches. They have won five of their seven fixtures, with one draw and one defeat.
A solitary point against Roma will see Frankfurt qualify for the Round of 16 without the need for a play-off. And with a three-point buffer to the play-off zone, the Germans would need a lot to happen for them to drop out of the top-eight if they lose on Matchday 8.
After his big-money move to Manchester City in the January transfer window, Frankfurt no longer has the services of Omar Marmoush to call upon. And in a further blow to Dino Toppmoller’s team, his replacement Elye Wahi is ineligible until the knockout phase of the competition.
The Germans have started life without their former talisman without too many issues. Die Adler has scored six goals in three matches since Marmoush was originally left out of the squad due to his pending transfer.
They will go into the showdown with Roma knowing scoring goals isn’t a problem.
AS Roma vs Eintracht Frankfurt betting tips
This is the big one for Roma. Can they get the win over Frankfurt that sees them through to the Europa League knock-out stages? Find the answer in our Roma vs Frankfurt betting tips below:
Frankfurt to win or draw
Roma is the team that needs the win. But at 4/6 are they really a good value bet?
There has been a massive improvement since Claudio Ranieri took charge at the Stadio Olimpico. But as their 1-0 defeat at AZ Alkmaar on Matchday 7 showed, there is still plenty wrong with this team.
Free Bet Offers
In all competitions, Frankfurt has lost only six times in 29 matches. They are also unbeaten in five matches in all competitions since the Bundesliga season resumed, and three of those fixtures were without Omar Marmoush.
Odds of better than even money for Frankfurt not to lose looks too good to pass up.
Back Frankfurt and the draw in the double chance market at 11/10 with SBK
Both teams to score and over 2.5 goals
Both teams to score looks a good bet in this match. Roma has scored in eight of their last ten, and Frankfurt has found the net in nine of their previous ten.
Six of Roma’s last ten matches in all competitions have also had over 2.5 goals. While seven of Frankfurt’s last ten have also resulted in three goals or more being scored..
Furthermore, without Marmoush, the Germans have scored twice in their previous three matches. There looks to be little wrong with their attacking prowess without their former top scorer.
Both teams to score is 4/6. Over 2.5 is 73/100. Combine both bets for the better odds of 92/100.
Back both teams to score and over 2.5 goals at 92/100 with Casumo
Hugo Ekitike to score or assist
One man who doesn’t seem to have been affected by the departure of Omar Mourmoush is Hugo Ekitike.
In the three matches Ekitike has played without his former strike partner, the 22-year-old has scored four goals in all competitions.
Ekitike started with a goal in the 2-0 win over Dortmund in the Bundesliga. He then scored the second in the 2-0 win over Ferencvaros in the Europa League. And the Frenchman warmed up for the match against Roma with a brace in last Sunday’s 2-2 draw with Hoffenheim in the Bundesliga.
In total, Ekitike has 16 goals and six assists in all competitions this season.
And with five of his 16 goals coming in his last four matches, Ekitike is in hot form. He is 5/2 to score anytime. We are taking the shorter odds of 6/4 to give us the win if he only provides an assist.
