The Mufti of Uganda, His Eminence Sheikh Dr. Shaban Ramadan Mubaje, has officially launched the construction of the Waleed Asharad Lecture Room Block at the Islamic Call University College, located at the Uganda Muslim Supreme Council (UMSC) headquarters.
Breaking the ground for the project on Friday, the Mufti hailed the development as a significant milestone in expanding educational opportunities for the Muslim community and beyond. He expressed gratitude to Insan Charity and Sheikh Waleed Asharad from Kuwait, who funded the eight-classroom block.
“This achievement, coming in this blessed month of Ramadhan, is a testimony to what we can accomplish through unity and collaboration. I thank our brothers at Insan Charity for fulfilling their commitment to supporting this university. This is the second lecture block, and we look forward to seeing more progress,” Mufti Mubaje said.
He urged the university leadership to maintain high-quality construction standards. “We don’t need shoddy work. I encourage you to inspect the buildings and ensure their durability,” he emphasized.
Dr. Idris Abdallah, the Vice Chancellor of the Islamic Call University College, lauded Sheikh Waleed Asharad for his generosity and commitment to the advancement of education in Uganda.
“This construction is a result of the strong partnership between UMSC and Insan Charity. When the Mufti led a delegation to Kuwait in 2024, they engaged with Insan Charity, and today we are seeing the results of that engagement. We thank His Eminence for his relentless efforts in securing this support and pray for Allah to protect him,” Dr. Abdallah said.
He noted that the construction works are expected to take approximately three months.
UMSC Secretary General, Haji Abas Sekyanzi, described the project as a major step in fulfilling the Mufti’s vision for education.
“Once again, we are celebrating another milestone for UMSC. Your Eminence, we congratulate you on this achievement. Through this university, you are providing education to the Ummah, and through the Mufti’s bursary, many Muslims who would have missed out on education are now benefiting,” Haji Sekyanzi remarked.
He urged the university leadership to ensure the successful implementation of the project.
The Deputy Mufti, Sheikh Ali Muhammad Waiswa, also extended gratitude to the donor for fully covering the construction costs. “We pray to Allah to reward Sheikh Waleed Asharad abundantly for his generosity,” Sheikh Waiswa said.
The Mufti used the occasion to encourage all Ugandans, regardless of faith, to support the university, emphasizing that its doors are open to everyone.
“I call upon Muslims and all Ugandans to support this university. We do not have time to engage those who only seek to create distractions—we have important work to do for the Ummah,” he stated.
Also in attendance was Dr. Idris Sserugo Kasenene, the Vice Chairperson of the University Council, along with other senior leaders from UMSC and the university.
