Whoops: The Ineos Grenadier’s Doors Could Fly Open Unexpectedly

Science and TechnologyAutoWhoops: The Ineos Grenadier's Doors Could Fly Open Unexpectedly

The rugged Ineos Grenadier is the latest SUV to suffer a recall. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), a faulty latch on exterior door handles could cause doors on some Grenadier models to fly open accidentally. Not ideal.

Ineos says, “the door button mechanism may have been assembled without a sufficient application of grease.” That means the button on the door may remain in the depressed position, causing it to not latch properly and fly open without warning. The company suggests customers should be able to easily recognize this issue before setting off.

“A visual warning will appear on the vehicle’s head unit if a door is not fully closed,” the company said in a statement. “If the vehicle begins to move with the door still not fully closed, the message will turn red and display the word warning followed by audible alerts.”

The recall affects 7,022 examples of the Grenadier produced between July 6, 2023, and April 19, 2024. The company has also temporarily halted sales of its Grenadier SUV and truck until every affected example on dealer lots receives a fix. Dealers will have to replace the door button assembly entirely to rectify the problem.

Ineos will issue recall notices to owners affected by the issue between March 31 and May 4, 2025. Naturally, those owners can have their Grenadiers repaired at no cost to them at their local Ineos dealership.
