EntertainmentSportsCheltenham 2025 Gold Cup ante post tips

Of all the races at the Cheltenham Festival this year I think the Gold Cup is the one I’m looking forward to the most!

Galopin Des Champs is looking for a famous hat-trick, a feat that hasn’t been achieved since Best Mate back in 2004. He is set to be the shortest priced favourite in the race since Arkle which is going back nearly 60 years!

Gold Cup preview & tips

The Gold Cup is obviously a really tough race to win which is why we have rarely seen any odds-on favourites down the years. GALOPIN DES CHAMPS returned a 10/11 winner last year but before that you’d have to scroll way back to Best Mate in 2004 where he returned a winning 8/11 jolly.

The best price currently is 8/13 (AK Bets) which you could argue is value with some bookmakers as short as 2/5 in places. He looks pretty bombproof having obviously won the race for the last two years and looking better than ever winning at the DRF last month. He is everything you want in a racehorse and understandably the opposition is running scared.

Stablemate Fact To File looks likely to go for the Ryanair so there really might not be much to beat and he will be many peoples best bet of the week and I’d struggle to disagree.

Each way angle?

Obviously with such a short priced favourite it might be worth having an each way saver in the race. Fact To File does look likely to go for the shorter race and a horse that ties in with him is MONTY’S STAR. Henry de Bromhead knows what it takes to win the Gold Cup having been successful with A Plus Tard and Minella Indo in recent years.

This horse is still lightly raced over fences and while he obviously has ground to make up from Leopardstown I do think he is a lot better than he managed to show that day and he could be the one finishing best more than likely in behind the favourite.
