Real Madrid vs Atletico Madrid predictions
The standout fixture of Matchday 23 is the latest installment of the Madrid derby.
This fixture is always huge in Spain. But with Real holding just a one-point advantage over their city rivals at the top of the table, this particular derby has huge consequences in the race to win the La Liga title.
Real are the defending champions. But this year they don’t just have Barcelona to contend with. Atletico are in the mix, and they look like genuine contenders after splashing out big bucks on the likes of Julian Alvarez and Conor Gallagher.
Los Blancos saw their lead at the top of the table cut last weekend. Real suffered a shock 1-0 defeat away at Espanyol.
The loss was a strange one. Carlo Ancelotti’s team dominated the territory with 77% possession. Real also had 21 shots on goal compared to Espanyol’s five, yet the league champions never looked like scoring.
The defeat was Real’s first in the league since December 4th, and only their second defeat in their previous 11 La Liga fixtures. What made it all the worse was both their rivals, Atletico and Barcelona, picked up maximum points.
Real has been here before, though. They know there is no need to panic. And if they can beat their cross-city rivals at their Santiago Bernabéu home, Ancelotti’s team will be back in control of the title race.
Atletico have dropped a few points themselves in recent weeks. An eight-match winning streak ended when the Red-Whites lost 1-0 to Leganes on Matchday 20.
The defeat was followed by a disappointing 1-1 home-draw with Villareal on Matchday.
Diego Simeone’s team did get back to winning ways in their most recent La Liga outing last Saturday. Goals from Samuel Lino and Antoine Griezmann secured a 2-0 win over Mallorca.
Atletico followed that up with a comprehensive 5-0 win over Getafe in the Copa del Rey on Tuesday.
A brace from Giuliano Simeone got the rout started. Further strikes from Samuel Lino, Ángel Correa and Alexander Sørloth completed the scoring and gave Atletico the perfect warm up for a showdown with their ultimate rivals.

Real Madrid vs Atletico Madrid betting tips
Ángel Correa rescued a point for Atletico with a 95th minute equaliser when the teams met at the Metropolitano on Matchday 8. Los Blancos will feel they owe their city rivals in the return fixture. Read our Real Madrid vs Atletico Madrid betting tips below:
Real Madrid to win and under 4.5 goals
There have been under 4.5 goals in four of the last six meetings in all competitions between these two.
Furthermore, there have been under 4.5 goals in their last four La Liga meetings, with three ending in a stalemate, and one ending with Atletico winning 3-1.
We can see goals in this one. But not five.
Free Bet Offers
Real will be hurting from last weekend’s defeat to Espanyol. They will want to get that out of their system.
Los Blancos did beat Leganes 3-2 in the Copa del Rey on Wednesday. But beating Atletico in the Madrid derby is the big one. It will also see them regaining control of the title race.
Back Real Madrid to win and under 4.5 goals at 6/5 with CopyBet
Both teams to score
Both teams have scored in the last six meetings between the two teams.
There is always the possibility that the two teams might cancel each other out. And this is why we haven’t thrown over 2.5 goals into the bet.
It’s true that Atletico have the meanest defence in La Liga, but this los Colchoneros team is more attack-minded than previous Simeone teams.
They are not going to go into all out attack-mode at the Santiago Bernabéu, but they will possess a goal threat.
Real always possesses a goal threat. They have 23 goals in their last seven matches in all competitions.
Both teams to score is 4/6. That looks good to happen. Add a third goal (over 2.5 goals) to the wager if you want to take the bet to 11/10. But we are playing safe with BTTS.
Back both teams to score at 4/6 with bet365
Kylian Mbappe to score anytime
Kylian Mbappe sat out the Copa del Rey win in midweek. He is well rested for the Madrid derby.
The former PSG man is yet to score against Atletico for Real, having missed the first derby match with a muscle injury.
The truth is that Mbappe wasn’t firing on all cylinders back then anyway, and may have drawn a blank if he had played.
Mbappe was guilty of missing a few chances against Espanyol last weekend. He will want to put that right against Atletico.
The Frenchman has played six matches for Real in 2025, scoring seven goals. Mbappe is in good form. And he is better than even money to score against Atletico.
Snap it up.
