Saturday racing tips

  • NEWBURY

Tutti Quanti

Kientzheim garnered attention from stables when winning convincingly twice in bumpers at Angers and Pornichet.

He went on to win nicely ahead of Beau Quali on Boxing Day making it three wins from three including on his first start for Nicky Henderson last time out.

You always have to take note when JP McManus is the one to purchase and the grey is favourite going into the weekend in what’s still an open contest.

But comes up against Tutti Quanti who made virtually all at Ffos Las in November, taking the initiative up top and then despite a lesser jump at the last went on to win comfortably always doing enough.

He beat Diamonds For Luck who has gone on to win twice since at Wetherby and then Sandown, boosting Tutti Quanti’s form considerably.

I’d be going with Tutti Quanti on that given I think he probably could be rated higher than 125, so won’t mind the 3lb penalty over Kientzheim.

Hitman

Bravemansgame is winless since winning the King George VI Chase back in 2022.

Albeit there’s been a tonne of 2nd places behind the likes of Gentlemansgame, Fastorslow, Hewick and Galopin Des Champs.

He’s even further down in the weights too – 7lb lower than when winning the King George.

And it’s only in this race he’s really got the weights to his advantage carrying 6lb less than Djelo and carrying the same weight as other horses rated in the 150’s rather than 160’s.

Djelo may be better suited to 2m4f than stepping up in trip again.

Hitman has shown great potential over longer trips, placing second behind Shishkin in this race last year.

Which could mean it’s his race this year given that performance at a track that is quite tricky to win at.

Matata

It’s almost surprising that Matata is only seven-years-old as he’s been a top chaser, winning three times already.

He seems to have upped it a gear this year too, albeit still being stopped again by a small margin being second by a neck at both Kelso and Cheltenham.

He did the same in January 2024 placing close behind Libberty Hunter and JPR One.

He’s now rated much higher than Libberty Hunter, albeit I think it was a steep rise in the weights for beating Unexpected Party, by ten lengths.

But Matata still has this.

Dameofthecotswolds

A progressive five-year-old who tried to step up in trip last time out but clearly didn’t suit.

The mare is back down in trip here and though she’s rated lower than all the horses lower priced she’s got huge potential as the handicapper still hasn’t caught up with her.

She’s been well ahead of her rivals in each of her wins this season including by eight lengths at Doncaster in November.

Given there’s just a couple of mares to beat here she’s got a great chance of returning some profit for coming second as an each-way punt.

Hourvari

Second to Mr Bramley on his first run in well over a year at Wetherby in November and that form has only worked out well.

I fancied him to win that but he clearly bumped into a great horse on return, so now he’s got to a great chance of winning this at a decent price.
