Premier League leaders Liverpool return to domestic cup action this weekend just three days after booking their place in the Carabao Cup final with a storming 4-0 second leg victory over Tottenham.
Sunday afternoon sees Arne Slot’s side head to Devon for an FA Cup clash against Championship side Plymouth, looking for a third win in a row and to book their place in the fifth round draw.
The Merseyside club head into the weekend six points clear at the top of the Premier League table with a game in hand, having also finished top of the Champions League league stage and just qualified for the Carabao Cup final, making them most probably the best team in Europe right now.
The Reds have won five of their last six matches in all competitions, and have only been defeated on three occasions all season, though two of those have proved irrelevant having come in the Champions League league phase and the first leg of the Carabao Cup semi final.
Plymouth prepare for the visit of Liverpool having strung together four points from their last two matches, both against promotion chasing sides in the Championship despite currently sitting rock bottom of the second tier table.
Miron Muslic only took charge of the side midway through last month following the sacking of Wayne Rooney, and a notable 5-0 home loss to Burnley left the Pilgrims seven points from safety and seemingly staring relegation in the face.
Since then, a shock draw at Sunderland was followed by a home win over West Brom leaving, the gap between Argyle and survival now at just four points, and living the team in a confident mood ahead of their visit of the runaway Premier League leaders, a game which they head into with zero pressure or expectations.
The two sides last met in the third round stage of this competition back in 2017 when Plymouth managed to hold Liverpool to a goalless draw at Anfield before to a 1-0 defeat in the replay at Home Park.
