How many times was Taylor Swift shown on TV during the Super Bowl last year? Pop superstar hits back at ‘Brads and Chads’

EntertainmentSportsHow many times was Taylor Swift shown on TV during the Super Bowl last year? Pop superstar hits back at ‘Brads and Chads’

‘Dads, Brads and Chads’.

That was how Taylor Swift described the angry football fans annoyed by the broadcast coverage she receives at Kansas City Chiefs games.

Tay’s romance with tight end Travis Kelce has taken the NFL by storm since the pair first appeared in public together in 2023.

The Grammy-award-winning superstar has been at 21 Chiefs games over the past two seasons and is quite the good luck charm.

In games she has attended this season, the Chiefs have gone a perfect 9-0 to take their record to 18-3 overall.

Their run includes a brilliant playoff performance last year that culminated with a Super Bowl during Tay Tay’s first official year as a Chiefs fan.

Football’s power couple will once again steal the spotlight as the Chiefs chase a history-making three-peat.

However, how much truth there is in the claim that T-Swizzle is being shoved down fans’ throats throughout the game lies in the data.

How much time was Swift on TV during the Super Bowl?

Super Bowl LVIII was the most-watched US broadcast since the Apollo 11 moon landing in 1969, with an average of 123.4 million people.

It was also the longest – with the Chiefs edging out the San Francisco 49ers in overtime at 74 minutes and 57 seconds.

During that time, Swift was on TV all of 55 seconds (51 seconds before the game-winning touchdown) from kick-off until the end.

The 35-year-old was shown on CBS’ coverage 12 times, with her cumulative presence responsible for 0.36 per cent of their broadcast.

Swift’s appearances, which varied from her chugging a beer to reacting to plays, lasted an average of four-and-a-half seconds each.

What has been said?

“I don’t know how they [TV companies] know what suite I’m in,” she explained in her TIME Magazine Person of the Year interview in 2023.

“There’s a camera, like, a half-mile away, and you don’t know where it is, and you have no idea when the camera is putting you in the broadcast, so I don’t know if I’m being shown 17 times or once.

“I’m just there to support Travis. I have no awareness of if I’m being shown too much and pissing off a few dads, Brads, and Chads.”

Kelce referenced the ‘Brads and Chads’ comment when discussing her appearance at the Chiefs vs Patriots game that December.

Speaking on an episode of his New Heights podcast, he said: “I’ll say this, they showed Taylor at the game and, I mean, you don’t see an entire home team fanbase go insane for somebody wearing the opposite team’s colors.

“Just shows you how amazing that girl is. They went absolutely insane when they showed Taylor on the screen, yes. There might have been a few Brads and Chads that were booing, but for the most part, everybody was f****** screaming their tail off for her. I was trying to keep it cool, I was like, ‘Don’t show your cards.’”
