Rory McIlroy and Shane Lowry’s bromance was on show ahead of their Pebble Beach Pro-Am final day face-off.
The duo have been battling it out in California across the weekend in one of the first signature events of the PGA Tour in 2025.
McIlroy and Lowry both head into Sunday’s action on 15 under and a shot behind leader Sepp Straka on the United States west coast.
However, despite their competitiveness on the golf course, their long-term friendship was clear to see on Saturday evening.
Whilst Lowry was conducting a TV interview, McIlroy was seen walking past the media tent and took the opportunity to say hello.
“Partner!” he shouted behind the cameras before giving two thumbs up and then quickly embracing him.
“Good job,” Lowry said complimentary, to which McIlroy responded: “See you tomorrow.”
McIlroy and Lowry are familiar teammates having been part of the Irish European Amateur Team Championship winning team in 2007.
They were most notably the two Ireland representatives in the men’s individual event at last summer’s Paris Olympics.
Six months on from their trip to the French capital, they have reunited for the opportunity to secure another win on the PGA tour.
They made excellent starts on day one as they both sunk a hole-in-one at Spyglass Hill, although struggled the following day.
However, they made up for their shortcomings on Saturday by rising up the leaderboard and within reach of victory.
McIlroy and Lowry hit 65 each to close the gap on leader Straka, who could only manage 70.
With three players close behind them on 14 under, there is little room for error during the final round.
A winner’s share of $3.6million [£2.9million] is up for grabs amongst an overall prize fund of $20million [£16.1million].
Neither McIlroy or Lowry have ever won the Pebble Beach Pro-Am but this could very much change later on today.
