Frat bro Belichick?
Apparently that’s a real thing.
As if the greatest NFL coach of all time patrolling a college sideline next season wasn’t a strange enough story, there’s more.
Bill Belichick is throwing himself into the college lifestyle.
More specifically, he’s dusting off his Greek life roots.
Belichick was a member of Chi Psi at Wesleyan University in the early 70’s and now he’s going back to that well of fraternal knowledge to help win the student body over.
And that’s with free pizza.
Ross Martin of 247Sports and CBS Sports has reported that Belichick is buying pizzas for the North Carolina fraternities ahead of their men’s basketball game on Saturday with heated rival, the Duke Blue Devils.
“Coach Belichick wants to get your fraternity pizza for the UNC vs. Duke game tomorrow at 6:30 PM,” said director of football operations Alec Kerr in an email obtained by Martin.
“With that being said, our plan is to deliver the pizzas on behalf of Coach Belichick to your house.”
If you’re a member of a UNC fraternity, pizza is on the way.
It is a smart move by the six-time Super Bowl champion to help win the university and fanbase over.
And supplying free pizza is a surefire way to do just that.
Last year the Tar Heels went a disappointing 6-7, which led to former head coach Mack Brown departing the program.
That left a massive hole to fill for their program.
But not even the most die-hard football fan could have predicted Belichick being the one to replace Brown.
Most assumed the 72-year-old would find his way back to the NFL after his one-year hiatus away.
And there’s reason to believe he would have, but he chose not to wait for the usual professional coaching cycle to take place, and instead took the UNC job in early December.
A move that sent shock waves in both the professional and college ranks.
The year is 2025 and Belichick is handing out pizzas to college fraternities.
Who had that on their BINGO card?
