Saturday racing tips
- LEOPARDSTOWN

1.50: Sainte Lucie 2/1 (1.5pts)
3.30: Galopin Des Champs 4/7 (2pts) - SANDOWN
2.00: Classic Maestro 6/1 each-way (1pt)
2.35: Handstands 10/3 (1pt)
Final Demand
Very impressive debut over hurdles at Limerick in December beating Timmy Tuesday at a canter.
The Walk In The Park gelding’s form has been significantly boosted since then with that horse going on to win next time out and has a rating of 122 as a result of the Class 4 handicap at Ayr.
Paul Townend up on the Willie Mullins-trained six-year-old are the signs needed to back this horse who holds a lot of potential.
Sainte Lucie
Sainte Lucie is a 10/1 shot for the Triumph Hurdle at Cheltenham Festival going into this and a 2/1 favourite, which could give huge value if she goes on to win well.
Hello Neighbour has seen his odds drift considerably while Lady Vega Allen is the one to keep an eye on as a stablemate to Sainte Lucie.
This filly was just a short head behind Hello Neighbour at Leopardstown on Boxing Day in the Grade 2 Juvenile Hurdle.
She ran on well that day and given it was her first start for Mullins, she looks as though she could have a lot of improvement up her sleeve having just failed to run down Hello Neighbour.
It’s hard to tell just how good Sainte Lucie is though as she went 11 lengths clear ahead of 19 rivals at Punchestown on New Year’s Eve, but just how good that run was is hard to tell not knowing much on those that placed behind her.
There’s a couple of decent horses in that field at least though which suggests Sainte Lucie also has more potential as she easily could have won that race by 20+ lengths if she needed to.
Galopin Des Champs
There’s no shame in going for a few Mullins horses and it’s difficult not to when he dominates the fields at the top level.
He’s surely got a few winners on Saturday and you’d expect Galopin Des Champs to be amongst them alongside his other favourites.
Galopin Des Champs is certainly more dependable as he’s won two Irish Gold Cups already along with two Cheltenham Gold Cups.
He thrives over this distance and has shown again this season that he’s at the top level for a reason.
So either go for a big single on Galopin Des Champs or double him up with any other of the tips for a bit more value.

Classic Maestro
Over to Sandown we see a few top chasers battle it out over 2m for the Class 2 handicap chase.
Etalon looks solid but not a guarantee as a favourite so there could be a value angle to this race of which there’s plenty of scope for that.
Martator will have to defy top-weight but back down to 2m and against these rivals he’s got a solid chance, if you can rule out the 2m5f attempt last time out to not liking that distance coupled with not running well in general.
He makes a quick reappearance which doesn’t necessarily bode well though and I’d be more confident avoiding for now but not surprised if he bounces back.
Gunsight Ridge put in a valiant effort against Matata at Cheltenham’s November Meeting, but fell at the last when challenging the eventual winner.
That could have had a bigger effect as he pulled up next time in early December and has been waited with for a return.
However, Classic Maestro ticks a lot of boxes; a nice each-way price, unexposed, likes the mud, and carries just 10-3 with the 5lb claimer Luke Scott on board which could give him licence to take this up confidently.
Handstands
Just the four runners for the Scilly Isles Novices’ Chase – but three if your to believe the betting with Jango Baie, Handstands and Kalif Du Berlais clear in the odds ahead of Mark Of Gold.
Jango Baie’s form is boosted by the fact Springwell Bay couldn’t get close to him at Cheltenham and then went on to win next time out over course and distance on New Year’s Day by nine lengths.
He was given 8lb that day but looks a solid bet on that evidence.
Handstands finished ahead of the odds-on favourite over hurdles at Huntingdon in February last year and has also gone on to look a promising prospect over fences.
He’s better than his overall rating suggests too so this is a fascinating contest.
Handstands has been that impressive this season on a variety of ground and distances that he should be in with a shout of winning over this horse again.
