The top two Premier League teams from each of the last two seasons go head to head at the Emirates Stadium on Sunday afternoon, though neither side has been able to keep up with the pace of the runaway league leaders Liverpool at this stage of the season.

Arsenal head into the weekend having won their last three matches following victory in Spain over Girona in the Champions League on Wednesday night.

Mikel Arteta’s side have only won two of their last six domestic matches though, from which they’ve won only one in their last four games at the Emirates Stadium.

A 2-2 draw in their most recent home league game against Aston Villa leaves the Gunners still in second place but now six points off the Premier League leaders, who also have a game in hand.

Manchester City’s bid for a record extending fifth consecutive league title appear all but over with the club heading into the weekend fourth in the Premier League table, 12 points off the top of the tree having also played a game more than Liverpool.

Pep Guardiola’s side are unbeaten in domestic competitions since the turn of the year and a 3-1 win over Club Brugge on Wednesday gave them back to back victories ahead of their trip to the capital on Sunday, but the Citizens look set to be in a top four battle rather than a title race this season.

The defending champions have won just two of their last 12 matches away from home in all competitions, losing eight of those, and don’t have a great recent record against Arsenal, winless in their last four matches against the Gunners.
