Amad Diallo’s quick-fire late hat-trick against Southampton has written his name into Manchester United’s history books.
The Ivorian winger scored three times in 12 minutes to snatch all three points for the Red Devils in their 3-1 triumph over Saints on Thursday night.
At 22 years and 189 days, he is the second youngest Premier League hat-trick scorer for United behind Wayne Rooney at 21 years and four days.
It is also the club’s first league hat-trick since Cristiano Ronaldo’s treble against Norwich in April 2022.
Diallo’s first strike cancelled out an own goal from Manuel Ugarte during the opening 45 minutes at Old Trafford.
United had trailed deep into the second half before a fortunate ricochet allowed Diallo to fire past Aaron Ramsdale with eight minutes remaining.
In scoring, the 22-year-old wrote his name into the club’s history books.
Diallo’s strike was his fourth in the Premier League this term, having also provided six assists for his teammates.
As a result, he is the first African player to achieve double figures in goal involvements for the Red Devils in a single league campaign.
Meanwhile, Diallo has also now scored in consecutive Premier League matches for the first time in his career.
His latest strike followed another equaliser against Liverpool at Anfield earlier this month.
The former Atalanta forward would further extend his tally on the night against the Saints, though.
On the cusp of stoppage time, Diallo put the hosts in front before capitalising on a mistake from Taylor Harwood-Bellis to complete his hat-trick.
It is the first time in his senior career the United starlet has scored three times in a single match.
Speaking at full-time, Diallo told TNT Sports: “In football you have to believe. We are very happy to win this game.
“The confidence was there after the draw at Liverpool and win at Arsenal.
“Yeah maybe one of the best weeks of my life. I’m very happy for this win as we deserve to win this game.
“We know we have quality players in this time. We need to sometimes have more hunger in the final third. I’m so happy for this win as the team deserve it.
“I’m ready to play every positon, to play wing-back, No.10, wherever the manager wants to put me. I’m so happy to score a hat-trick.”
Diallo now has more league goal contributions than any other United player this season with 12.
Across all competitions, meanwhile, he has scored nine goals and provided seven assists in 30 appearances.
The result sees United climb up to 12th in the table after their seventh win from 21 matches.
It also secured a first win at Old Trafford since Ruben Amorim’s side beat Everton on December 1.
