Chris Eubank Jr and Conor Benn will finally settle their long and bitter rivalry.
The pair have been embroiled in a family feud since their famous fathers fought in two epic battles in 1990 and 1993.
A huge showdown had been on the cards in October 2022, but news that Benn failed a drugs test broke on fight week and the fight was cancelled at late notice.
Ever since, it has added another layer to an already feisty rivalry, with negotiations to meet having rumbled on sporadically ever since.
Now it has been announced that the two Brit will let out their gnarly frustrations in a huge squared circle battle.
Tweeting on Wednesday morning, Saudi boxing chief Turki Alalshikh said it will be under the Ring Magazine banner, writing: “Eubank Jr vs Benn done in April, London.”
He added a venue and date will be announced soon and that he would be pushing for a tough undercard to match as well as a PPV price of £19.99.
“Your Fate has been sealed,” Benn posted alongside a picture of him signing the contract, while his promoter Eddie Hearn added: “The biggest fight in British boxing has been made.”
The Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, home to the Premier League club, is the rumoured destination, which is an upgrade on their previous planned bout at the 15,000 capacity O2 Arena.
A sticking point previously has been the weight the pair will fight at. Benn boxes at welterweight (147Ibs), while Eubank has fought at middlewight (160Ibs), which is two divisions higher.
It had been reported the pair will meet at 160lbs with Benn agreeing to make a 14lbs step up, and at a 3lbs heavier limit than the catchweight agreed initially in 2022.
On Tuesday Eubank Jr criticised Benn and Hearn, labelling them ‘rats’ for “trying to enforce a re-hydration restriction on me to make the fight”.
Benn responded by reminding him he is jumping two weight classes. “10lbs re-hydration because I’m already fighting a middleweight but you want to get in the ring at as a light-heavyweight?
“Making excuses already for when I staple you to the floor.”
Benn was cleared by the National Anti-Doping panel recently after an inquest into his two failed drugs test.
He has now been invited to reapply for his British Boxing Board of Control licence, and will be expected to do so with the fight against Eubank Jr almost certain to be sanctioned by the BBBofC.
It will be Eubank Jr’s latest outing on his quest to return to world level, having last fought in a tune-up victory against Kamil Szeremeta in October last year.
‘The Destroyer’, meanwhile, hasn’t fought since February last year where he outpointed Peter Dobson in a tough night at the office. Before then he beat Mexican Rodolfo Orozco in September 2023 having spent 525 days out of the ring.
But nonetheless the pair will be delighted to finally get their hands on each other, having nearly come to blows in several physical confrontations at events in the last two years.
