The Kansas City Chiefs have a shot at making NFL history.
Just don’t tell that to head coach Andy Reid.
The Chiefs can become the first team in the history of the National Football League to win three Super Bowls in a row.
Back-to-back-to-back.
The unprecedented three-peat.
Reid however, doesn’t want to hear any of that talk.
Not right now.
When asked about the possibility of a three-peat, Reid refused to go there.
“You don’t ever go there,” Reid told reporters on Tuesday afternoon.
“You’re tunneled in.
“You’re trying to find another play that works. It’s a weird dynamic.
“You’re just ingrained in trying to communicate with players and trying to teach.”
Reid isn’t letting himself, nor his players, think about three in a row.
Reid is focused on the here and now.
On the Houston Texans coming to Arrowhead on Saturday afternoon and trying to be the first team since the 2021 Cincinnati Bengals to beat the Chiefs in the postseason.
Since Joe Burrow walked into Kansas City three seasons ago and upset Patrick Mahomes and Reid, the Chiefs have gone on a historic run.
They avenged their loss to the Bengals the following year in the 2022 AFC Championship, going on to defeat the Philadelphia Eagles in Super Bowl LVII.
Then last season, Reid and the Chiefs became the first team to win back-to-back titles by defeating the San Francisco 49’ers in Super Bowl LVIII, since Tom Brady and the New England Patriots did it way back in 2003-2004.
They are now looking to defend their title for a third straight year.
After the Patriots won consecutive titles, they lost the following year in the divisional round against the Denver Broncos.
The Chiefs will be looking to avoid a divisional round slip-up.
The good news for the Kansas City franchise, is that since Mahomes became the starting quarterback in 2018, he has advanced to at least the AFC Championship every year.
Six straight title games and counting.
If Reid wins the Super Bowl this year, not only will he be making NFL history, but he will also tie the legendary Chuck Noll for the second-most Super Bowls win of all-time by a head coach with four.
Until then, Reid doesn’t even want to think about going there.
His focus is solely on the Texans.
