Barcelona make history as they thump Real Madrid in El Clasico Spanish Super Cup

OpenBarcelona make history as they thump Real Madrid in El Clasico Spanish Super Cup

Barcelona have made El Clasico history after securing an emphatic 5-2 victory over Real Madrid in the Supercopa de Espana.

The fierce rivals faced off in Saudi Arabia in a clash that did not disappoint with Hansi Flick‘s side playing their rivals off the park.

It’s the second time this season that Barcelona have secured a one-sided win over Los Blancos having won 4-0 at the Bernabeu back in October.

It means that Barcelona have now scored at least four goals in back-to-back Clasicos for the first time in their history.

Meanwhile it’s the first time that it has happened in an El Clasico clash in 62 years since Real Madrid won 5-1 and 4-0 in back-to-back Clasicos in 1963.

While it was a memorable night for Barcelona, it was another night to forget for Real Madrid, who have now lost heavily in both El Clasico fixtures since Kylian Mbappe‘s blockbuster arrival over the summer.

While Mbappe struggled in the previous clash at the Bernabeu, the French forward took just five minutes to find the back of the net to give Carlo Ancelotti‘s side the perfect start in Jeddah.

Unfortunately for him, Los Blancos suffered an almighty first-half collapse having conceded four goals to put the game to bed at the halfway point of the final.

Those strikes came from Lamine Yamal, Robert Lewandowski, Raphinha and Alejandro Balde who struck in the tenth minute of stoppage time in the first half.

Real Madrid were keen to get back into the game after the break, but found themselves 5-1 down just three minutes into the second half when Raphinha found the net again.

Barcelona were then reduced to ten men when ex-Arsenal star Wojciech Szczesny was red-carded for a foul on Mbappe, meaning that Hansi Flick’s side would have to hold on for over half an hour to secure victory.

Rodrygo clawed one back for Real Madrid to make it 5-2, but Barcelona were able to see out the game to earn a 15th Super Cup crown.

While Barcelona have now beaten Real Madrid twice this season, Ancelotti’s side are still ahead of the Catalan side in LaLiga and hold a five-point lead over Barca.

Sitting second and third respectively, Real Madrid and Barcelona still have work to do to win the title with Atletico Madrid currently top of the tree.
