Callum Simpson emerged victorious over Steed Woodall thanks to a controversial early stoppage from the referee.
Simpson beat Woodall in the second round in Sheffield to retain his British and Commonwealth super middleweight titles.
The 29-year-old fought for the first time since the tragic death of his sister Lily-Rae, who passed away aged just 19.
He paid tribute by having her name written on his shorts and robe for the win, the 16th of his unbeaten proffesional career to date.
Speaking to Sky Sports after, he said: “I’m feeling bittersweet.
“I’ve won these titles in front of all my fans but there’s one person who everyone knows I wish was here, but I know she’s looking down on me and I know I’m making her proud.
“I brought my other brothers and sisters, mum, dad and stepmum into the ring just to show that she’s not here, but she’s here in spirit. I’ve still got a lot to be grateful for.”
Simpson’s victory came after he initially had Woodall up on the ropes before down on the canvas as he took hold of the fight in round two.
Woodall rose to his feet and was allowed to carry on but struggled to respond to the barrage of strikes that came his way.
With around one minute and 40 seconds left in the round, referee Mark Bates stopped the fight to spark cheers for Simpson.
However, some fans on social media believe Bates ended the fight too soon, with Woodall in particular expressing his confusion.
“Horrific refereeing. Ruined it for the pair of them,” said one on X.
A second added: “That’s a dreadful stoppage.”
“Worst stoppage I’ve seen in a long time,” said a third.
A fourth said: “That’s a terrible stoppage especially with Belts on the line.”
Simpson was asked about stoppage but didn’t think it was early as he said: “If he didn’t stop it then, we were going to stop it another half a second later.
“For me it should have been stopped. At least Steed is alright and healthy. I knocked him down. He was still on unsteady legs. Anyone who knows me knows he would have gone down again.
“The referee did his job and kept him safe. Obviously Steed’s going to argue, but that’s a legit stoppage. It was only going one way.”
Simpson is a lifelong fan of Barnsley FC and is setting his sights on another fight at their home stadium Oakwell after beating Zak Chelli there in August.
“What’s next? I’ve just had a quick chat with John Flatman [Barnsley CEO] and he’s given permission to mess up the pitch in the summer.
“Oakwell, we’re coming for you again!”
