Bet of the day

Portsmouth to beat Wycombe @ 17/10

Wycombe’s promotion hopes took a blow when the Chairboys were beaten 1-0 by Huddersfield on Tuesday night, but now gaffer Matt Bloomfield must turn his attention to an FA Cup tie with Portsmouth just three days on.

Wycombe played pretty well against Huddersfield, but the Chairboys have been missing some key players through injury and they have been weakened at both ends of the pitch.

Defenders Jasper Pattenden and Ryan Tafazolli are on the sidelines, while center-back Caleb Taylor has been recalled by parent club West Brom. Forward Sam Vokes is out injured, as is creative force Kieran Sadlier, and that is a void that Wycombe may struggle to fill.

Portsmouth played pretty well despite losing 1-0 defeat to Sunderland last time out, and prior to that they looked good in a 4-0 hammering of Swansea.

At 17/10 Portsmouth look a tasty play.

Special of the day

West Ham to beat Aston Villa @ 18/5

West Ham have appointed Graham Potter as Julen Lopetegui’s replacement ahead of the clash with Aston Villa in the FA Cup on Friday night.

Clearly, West Ham would have hoped for more than this season has delivered, but the Irons have beaten Palace, Bournemouth, Manchester United and Newcastle this term and they are capable at their peak.

It is also worth considering that Villa may have their eyes on other prizes come Friday night.

This FA Cup third-round tie is the start of four fixtures in 10 days for Villa and it would be no surprise should Unai Emery look to rotate his starting line-up.

Long shot of the day

Hamilton draw no bet v Partick @ 13/10

Hamilton host Partick in the Scottish Championship on Friday night and the Accies appear capable of avoiding defeat.

John Rankin’s men have started to settle into life in the second tier following last season’s promotion, and Hamilton have lost only three of their last ten matches at New Douglas Park.

The Accies have won five of their last nine matches and look set to have a strong second half of the Championship campaign.

Patrick will have eyes on promotion to the Scottish Premiership this term, but Thistle have won only three of nine away league matches and Kris Doolan’s men were hammered 4-1 by Dunfermline last time out.

Taking Hamilton on the draw not bet market looks a pretty solid bet.
