OpenNext Everton manager odds: Mourinho and Moyes lead odds list after Dyche departure

Jose Mourinho trails only David Moyes in the odds to be named the next Everton manager following the announcement of Sean Dyche’s sacking at Goodison Park this afternoon.

The former Chelsea and Manchester United and current Fenerbahce manager is priced at just 3/1 to be named Dyche’s successor, though former Toffees boss Moyes leads the list at 1/2. Check out the full odds list here.

Dyche has been sacked from Everton after just less than two years in the role.

The 53-year-old took over at Goodison Park in January 2023, with the side straggling down in 19th place in the Premier League table following the sacking of Frank Lampard.

The Englishman managed to steer Everton to safety on the final day of the 2022-23 season, a 1-0 win over Bournemouth securing their place in the division and preventing a first season outside the top flight since 1953-54.

Last season then saw Everton survive an eight point deduction for breaching profit and sustainability rules to finish 15th, but the current campaign hasn’t brought about the same form.

Just one win in their last 11 matches has seen the Toffees drop to 16th in the table, where they currently sit within a point of the relegation zone.

David Moyes is being touted as the current odds on favourites to steer the Merseyside club to clear of any relegation troubles, having successfully taken on similar missions twice at West Ham and even once before at Everton.

The Scotsman, who has been out of a job since his contract came to an end at his second spell at West Ham last summer, made a name for himself while managing Everton, taking over the side in March 2002 and only leaving the club after being deemed the ‘Chosen One’ to replace Sir Alex Ferguson at Manchester United in 2013.

Moyes’ most recent job saw him take over a West Ham side 17th in the table in December and deliver two top seven finishes and a European trophy in his first three full seasons of his tenure, staying one more season before his contract came to an end.

Jose Mourinho is a big name being linked with the Toffees to guide the club through their final half a season at Goodison Park before the club move to their new home on Bramley Dock, where they will be desperate to be playing Premier League football next season.

The Portuguese is one of the most successful managers in Premier League history, one of only four men to have lifted the trophy three times since 1992, all of which he won with Chelsea, the most recent of which came in 2015 in his second spell in charge at Stamford Bridge.

The 61-year-old is also one of only a handful of managers to have won the Champions League on more than one occasion, doing so against all odds with Porto in 2004 before achieving the same feat as part of an Inter Milan side who won the treble in 2010.

Mourinho has managed the likes of Real Madrid, Manchester United, Tottenham and Roma as well as his time at Chelsea, Porto and Inter Milan, and has previously stated his desire to return to the Premier League, and a club with the rich history Everton have could be a tempting offer.

Current caretaker manager and Everton U18s boss Leighton Baines, who also played 420 times for the Toffees, is another in the running to be named permanent boss, currently priced at 5/1.

Lee Carsley, who led England in their recent Nations League campaign following Gareth Southgate’s resignation, and currently leads the nation’s U21 side, is 8/1 to be named Dyche’s replacement at the side he made just shy of 200 appearances for.
