Four people in Kabale District are under investigation for allegedly assaulting and killing a man during a dispute. Jackine Tindiwegyi, 50, and Mathias Mashemererwa, 28, both residents of Kyondo Village in Katenga Parish, Kamuganguzi Sub-County, Kabale District, and two unidentified suspects still at large, are accused of killing Piason Niwandinda, a man in his early 30s from the same village.

The incident occurred on Sunday night, December 15, 2024, at around 8:00 PM at Kyondo Trading Centre. According to police reports, a misunderstanding arose between Tindiwegyi, two other suspects, and Niwandinda for reasons yet to be determined. The altercation escalated into a physical fight, during which Mashemererwa joined in. Niwandinda was struck on the head with a blunt object and died instantly.

Locals notified the police after the incident. Elly Maate, the Kigezi Region Police spokesperson, confirmed that by Monday, Tindiwegyi and Mashemererwa had been arrested and detained at Kabale Central Police Station. Efforts to apprehend the two remaining suspects are ongoing. Maate also stated that the deceased’s body was transported to Kabale Regional Referral Hospital for a postmortem, and investigations are continuing to establish the circumstances surrounding the death.
