In a strategic move to enhance Uganda’s District, Urban, and Community Access Roads (DUCAR) network, the government has taken significant steps to address infrastructure challenges in newly formed districts. The Ministry of Works and Transport, in collaboration with the Ministry of Finance, Planning, and Economic Development (MoFPED), has committed to equipping these areas with essential road construction machinery.
This initiative targets 16 newly formed districts, including Nabilatuk, Bugweri, Kasanda, Kwania, Kapelebyong, Kikuube, Obongi, Kazo, Rwampara, Kitagwenda, Madi-Okollo, Karenga, and Lusot.
As part of the first phase of the program, the government has procured and distributed one motor grader and one wheel loader to each district. These pieces of equipment are intended to support road maintenance and construction projects, helping improve the condition of roads in these areas.
The provision of this machinery marks a critical step in improving the DUCAR network, which is key to boosting regional connectivity, facilitating trade, and improving access to essential services for communities in the newly established districts.
