OpenErling Haaland ends Man City misery by breaking Manchester United legend’s 20-year Champions League record

Erling Haaland is back with a bang for Manchester City in the Champions League.

After just one goal in his last four club games, the 24-year-old‘s strike against Feyenoord has seen the Norwegian break another record in the competition.

And this time it’s a Manchester United legend he’s toppled.

Haaland broke the deadlock in the 44th minute from the penalty spot – his 16th of the season in all competitions.

And that brought up Haaland’s 50th goal involvement in the Champions League on just his 44th appearance.

His half-century of involvements in the European Cup consists of 45 goals and five assists.

Haaland burst on the scene at Austrian outfit Red Bull Salzburg, before he continued to turn heads at German giants Borussia Dortmund.

And he has continued to dazzle since arriving at the Etihad in 2022, where he is regarded as one of the deadliest finishers in Europe.

Haaland’s heroics in the Champions League has seen him reach the milestone in record time.

It’s just one game fewer than ex-United striker Ruud van Nistelrooy, who managed the feat in 44 matches.

He set that in 2004 as he scored all four goals in a 4-1 group stage win over Sparta Prague.

In total the Dutch forward scored 56 goals and made 18 assists – 74 involvements in total – as his storied career took in Real Madrid after his Premier League tenure.

And Haaland is now hunting down his total haul, with the player adding to his tally in the second half.

The Norway international found the back of the net in the 53rd minute – tapping home from close range after being picked out by Savio.

His two goals were sandwiched between an Ilkay Gundogan strike – his second of the campaign.
