Wayne Rooney is preparing a move for a young Liverpool striker who is the son of an ex-Birmingham City star.

The youngster has made limited appearances for Liverpool but has emerged through their academy and played for the Under-18s side.

Since taking the reins at Plymouth Argyle in the summer, the Manchester United legend, now 39, has had a mixed start.

Argyle currently sit 19th in the Championship with four wins, five draws, and seven losses.

Despite a solid start, they have struggled in front of goal, scoring just 17 times in the first 16 matches of the campaign.

In an effort to bolster their attack, Rooney is turning to the loan market in January for reinforcements.

One player under consideration is Liverpool’s talented 18-year-old forward, Jayden Danns, son of Neil Danns, who played for the likes of Birmingham City – where Rooney took charge last season – and Crystal Palace.

Jayden Danns, however, has now recovered from a long-term back injury and will hope to feature for the Reds before the year is out.

Liverpool boss Arne Slot may choose to loan Danns out to aid his development, with the young striker having impressed in a handful of appearances so far.

Danns notably scored twice in a 3-0 FA Cup win over Southampton in February this year.

He also featured in Liverpool’s Carabao Cup final victory against Chelsea alongside a host of young talents.

Elsewhere, Liverpool’s owners, Fenway Sports, are reportedly eyeing a second attempt at purchasing a French club, having previously pulled out of talks with struggling Bordeaux.

Several French teams have recently changed ownership, and many could be open to negotiations if the price is right.

Rooney’s latest match in charge of Plymouth ended in a dramatic 2-2 draw against Watford, where a late equaliser from Andre Gray salvaged a point for Argyle six minutes into injury time.

A loan move to Plymouth could be a valuable opportunity for Danns under Rooney’s guidance, benefitting from more regular game time under the former striker’s wealth of expertise.

Danns has already made five first-team appearances for Liverpool and is seen as a rising talent at Anfield.
