Trent Alexander-Arnold is a major doubt for Liverpool’s visit to face Southampton this weekend.
The right-back came off after 25 minutes during the 2-0 win over Aston Villa at Anfield before the international break and hasn’t been seen since.
He then pulled out of the England squad for the November internationals.
And heading into this match, there is a huge question mark over his availability.
Here, talkSPORT.com looks into Alexander-Arnold’s situation.
Is Trent Alexander-Arnold fit to face Southampton?
As it stands, it’s looking unlikely that the right-back will feature on the south coast.
This is because he has yet to train with the rest of his Liverpool teammates since the injury.
Alexander-Arnold started the win over Villa before complaining of a hamstring issue, and he limped off the pitch.
Speaking after the game, Reds boss Arne Slot said: “It’s difficult to say how serious it is, but it’s always serious if a player goes out in the first half.
“Not because I didn’t like him, but because he asked for it himself.
“He didn’t ask for it because he was tired, he asked for it because he felt something.
“That’s first of all not a good sign, but it is always difficult so close after the game to tell you exactly what it is. Let’s wait and see.
“I would be surprised if we will see him playing for the England national team this week, but hopefully, he can.”
Slot was right to be dubious about him playing for England because he withdrew from the squad.
He was one of nine players to withdraw from Lee Carsley’s final games as Three Lions’ interim boss, which they won 3-0 and 5-0, respectively.
It was no doubt hoped that the extra rest would allow Alexander-Arnold to return.
But Slot revealed in his pre-match press conference that the 26-year-old was yet to train.
He said: “Trent isn’t training with us yet but he’s getting there so we expect him to be back for us soon.”
This suggests he could train on Saturday, meaning he would have a chance to play on Sunday.
However, it is more likely that Alexander-Arnold will be back to face Real Madrid in the Champions League next week.
Slot said: “With Trent, it’s going to be in between [games].”
It appears as if the Reds might have to make do without their star right-back for this Premier League encounter.
But he should be back to play at least some part against Real Madrid.
