It would be an overstatement to say that Bayern Munich are in danger of running away with the Bundesliga title after just 10 rounds of fixtures.
We are not even a third of the way through the campaign and Bayern’s lead at the summit of the standings totals just five points. There is still a huge amount of work for Vincent Kompany’s side to do before they can begin celebrating.
It is telling that their title odds have been slashed over recent weeks, however. That is in part because of Bayern’s own performances, but the shortcomings of their rivals is perhaps a more significant factor.
Borussia Dortmund are languishing in seventh spot right now, seemingly unable to win away from Signal Iduna Park.
Bayer Leverkusen have drawn exactly half of their 10 games. They are still tough to beat but Xabi Alonso’s side are finding wins surprisingly hard to come by.
RB Leipzig have been the best of the rest so far, winning six and drawing three of their first 10 outings. Yet the expected goals data suggests they have been only the seventh-best performing team in the division.
The underlying numbers make for pretty positive reading for Bayern, who have taken 26 points from the first 30 available. The Champions League has brought defeats by Aston Villa and Barcelona, but Bayern are one of only three teams in Europe’s top five leagues yet to lose domestically (the other two are Paris Saint-Germain and Juventus).
Yet we still do not know how good Kompany’s team truly are. Bayern are scoring goals for fun in Germany, but there are still question marks over the midfield and defence. Others have raised doubts about the team’s pressing game, which needs to become more cohesive.
We have not yet seen enough evidence to categorically place Bayern among Europe’s top teams this term, but they will not necessarily have to be one of the continent’s best to win the Bundesliga title.
If Bayern continue to get the job done in matches like this one against Augsburg, it will be hard for RB Leipzig, Bayer Leverkusen or anyone else to catch them.

Augsburg cannot draw much confidence from their recent away record either. They have collected just one point on the road in 2024/25; only Bochum have a worse record at opposition grounds.
Bayern have blown several opponents away in the last few months. Five of their last six wins in the Bundesliga have been by a three-goal margin or more.

Indeed, they have not conceded a goal since a 3-3 draw with Eintracht Frankfurt on October 6, since when Kompany’s charges have kept four clean sheets on the spin.
Only four teams have made the net bulge less often than Augsburg, while Jess Thorup’s team rank even lower for expected goals.
A clean sheet for Bayern is a distinct possibility. And if they do shut their opponents out, they would only need to score one goal in each half for this bet to be successful.
It can be tough to find value in the market when Bayern are in action against a bottom-half team, but these odds look very tempting indeed.

Jamal Musiala to score any time
Discussions about Jamal Musiala’s long-term future seem to be taking place on a weekly basis in Germany.
Although he is not out of contract until 2026, the word on the street is that Bayern Munich would look to cash in on Musiala next summer unless he commits to a new deal before then.
“It’s important for me to stay fit and perform to my potential until I have a bit of time to calm down,” he told RND when asked about the possibility of a new contract.
“Then I can take time to think about everything. I think we’ll know more during the winter break.”
For now Musiala is fully focused on his football – and that is bad news for Augsburg ahead of Friday’s Bavarian derby.
