The Ministry of Luwero Triangle have donated 1450 iron sheets to complete stalled markets, health centers and schools in Luwero district.
Some of the beneficiary markets are Kiyenje market in Luwero town council which got 150 ironsheets and Balikyejjusa roadside market in Luwero sub county which received 200 pieces of ironsheets.
The schools include St Jude Galikwoleka Primary school, Kayindu Primary School, Bombo UMEA primary school and Target College primary each getting between 100-200 pieces of ironsheets.
The health centers include Zirobwe Health center 111, Nyimbwa HC 1V and Kkalwe Health center each receiving 100 pieces of iron sheets.
On Saturday, the State Minister in Charge of Luwero Triangle Alice Kaboyo launched the distribution of 1450 iron sheets at Balikyejjusa roadside market where he tasked the beneficiaries to ensure that they are used as per requested purposes.
Kaboyo explained that Balikyejjusa roadside market which is among the beneficiaries of the donation employs hundreds of people involved in selling fruits and it was justifiable to get the ironsheets to complete their market stalls.
“This is an important market in Luwero because it brings revenue in the district. It employs youths and women who are looking for a living. So I have donated these ironsheets to help them complete their market stalls and boost income for their livelihoods” Kaboyo said
Kaboyo also said that iron sheets for the schools will be used to complete classroom blocks and staff quarters.
Imran Katamba the Chairperson of Balikyejjusa roadside market since the market was established in 2004, vendors have been operating in temporary structures and others in open space.
Katamba explained that in 2023, they launched campaign together with Ronald Ndawula the National Resistance Movement Chairperson for Luwero district to construct permanent market stalls to host the vendors.
Katamba added that the market is now at the roofing stage and the ironsheets were timely.
Ronald Ndawula the National Resistance Movement Chairperson for Luwero district said that together with vendors, they have injected 78 million shillings in construction but more support is still needed to complete the works.
“I appealed to Minister Kaboyo to donate ironsheets for the market and am happy she has responded positively. Balikyejjusa market employs over 2000 vendors and they will now have permanent market to work either during dry or rainy season” Ndawula said
Sheikh Ramadhan Mulindwa Nsanja the Luwero District Kadhi also appreciated Minister Kaboyo for fulfilling pledges to schools to enable complete their classrooms and staff quarters.
