Godfrey Kamugasha, a 54-year-old accountant at Kambuga Hospital in Kanungu District, is currently receiving treatment after being attacked by an unknown assailant. The incident occurred at Kamugasha’s home in Rutwe Cell, Southern Ward, Butogota Town Council, on October 11, 2024, around 1:30 am.
According to reports, the assailant gained access by cutting through a wooden fence and attempted to break the padlock on Kamugasha’s door. Hearing the noise, Kamugasha armed himself with a stick and opened the door while raising an alarm. As he attempted to confront the intruder, the assailant dodged the stick and struck Kamugasha on the head with a sharp object before fleeing the scene.
The alarm raised by Kamugasha attracted locals, prompting the assailant to escape. Elly Maate, the police spokesperson for the Kigezi region, stated that Kamugasha was rushed to a medical center in Butogota, where he is currently admitted.
Despite efforts by the police, including the use of a sniffer dog, the assailant has not yet been apprehended. The case has been registered at Butogota Police Station under file number SD.05/11/10/24.
